Introducing East Rutherford Chiropractor Dr. Michael Bozan

East Rutherford, New Jersey chiropractor Dr. Michael Bozan

Those who are new to chiropractic might have a vague concept about what it is.  Chiropractic is a healing art with a number of health and wellness applications; however, I didn’t always know this. When I decided to become a chiropractor, mostly what I knew about the profession was that it was used to help those with back pain. After all, that was what my father had always used it for! I was graduating high school and chiropractic seemed like a cool career choice. As a chiropractor, I could make a good living and be a “doctor” without getting messy in surgery or having to be on call.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into or how my beliefs would be altered and my decisions for the future changed.  It is because of this that I can relate to people who are newly exposed to chiropractic.  I try to remember that beginner’s mindset as I expose them to its vast benefits.  I want people to feel comfortable about their health choices and be given the freedom to choose the direction they want to take with it.

A whole new way of looking at health, and the world in particular, was opened up for me by attending Chiropractic school.  Following graduation from Montclair State College (it was a college back then) with a Bachelors of Science degree, I decided to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I was very pleased with my decision to land myself in the oldest and most prestigious chiropractic school in the world.  I am not embarrassed to admit that I chose this school by default. I was ready to slow down from the crazy college life and buckle down to my studies and didn’t want to go to the same school that my best friend at the time did.

At times I was conflicted with some of the ideas presented to me, especially when I first started at Palmer. The idea that the body is self-regulating and healing, and that disease is a process, contradicted so much of what I had previously learned.  In the same sense, it was fascinating and these ideas felt true to me at a more subtle inner level.  Ironically, it was an M.D. who made the greatest impression on me.  He logically tore apart the medical model of health, rather disease, and demonstrated why its symptom based, drug for everything approach didn’t make sense. Chiropractic and a natural lifestyle had a new appeal for me.  This episode recommitted and motivated my purpose to help people in a natural way without drugs or surgery.

I have since been fascinated with natural health and healing.  I realize what a gift good health is and it is unfortunate that too many of us don’t realize this until we’ve lost it.  I really enjoy helping people recover from their injuries or chronic pain.  Patients discovering that they don’t have to “learn to live with… you fill in the blank (debilitating headaches, numbness in the hands, sleepless nights)”, is exhilarating.  However, what I really get a kick out of is seeing people change their perceptions on health.  Every so often I see someone get that “Ah ha!” light bulb above the head experience, when they truly realize that they have control of their own health by changing their diet or adding exercise to their normal routine.  This is really the most exciting and satisfying part of my job.  I like to think of myself as a “health coach”.  “Chiropractor” seems too limited at times.

It is so exciting to see people actually make concrete changes in their health and life.  I guess I appreciate it so much because I know first hand how hard it is to accomplish.  I try to have my activities and interests outside of work actually support these goals.  I am a certified instructor of yoga and really enjoy teaching it, sometimes more than practicing.  I’m almost fanatical about it!  Yoga can be a fantastic way to slow down my mind and get glimpses into my life as it truly is.  It can be a great catalyst for change. It is for these reasons that I recommend yoga to all my patients.

I would love the opportunity to help you achieve your health goals.  Please let me know of how I can be of service to you.  If you have any questions regarding chiropractic, or my practice specifically, please feel free to call the office or contact me at the link below.

Dr. Mike Asks some important questions of interest to East Rutherford residents - Chiropractor East Rutherford Dr. Mike Asks...

Can chiropractic cure a child's ear infections?
Chiropractic isn't a cure for anything. Nor is it a treatment for ear infections. However, many children who suffer with ear infections also suffer from spinal problems in their neck, compromising nerves to the ear, depressing the immune system and preventing proper drainage. Can chiropractic help? Find out!
How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
